Christopher Bishop

Chris practises in all areas of family and relationship law and is regularly briefed to advise and appear in parenting, property and child support matters.

Chris brings more than two decades of specialist experience in child support law, with experience in the field dating back to 2003. He is recognised as a leading expert in Australia's child support scheme and is frequently retained in complex matters involving the interpretation and application of its legislation. This includes appeals from decisions of the Tribunal, binding child support agreements, departure applications, enforcement of child support debt and international child maintenance obligations.

Chris's extensive child support experience complements a broad family law practice. He is regularly briefed in parenting and property proceedings and appears in interim hearings, trials, contravention applications, spousal maintenance applications and mediations. He also accepts briefs in international family law matters, including applications under the Hague Convention.

Before commencing practice at the Bar, Chris advised and appeared on behalf of Commonwealth Government departments and agencies in administrative and public law matters. That experience has provided him with a strong foundation in statutory interpretation, judicial and merits review, and administrative decision-making.

Chris was admitted as a legal practitioner in 2010 and called to the Bar in 2023. He holds a Juris Doctor (Master of Laws) from Monash University and a Bachelor of Biomedical Science.
